Guerre pronounced: G-air – it is like saying “scare” but with a “g” in the front – But he also likes to say it as “gwhere”… Now that we have that cleared up lets proceed with the introductions.

Canadian born solo producer, Lavurn Lee is Guerre and we are very happy to have him join our música/TUMBALONG line-up.

His music has been labelled everything from neo soul, avant ghetto to lo-fi R&B. He beautifully weaves ambient synth sounds and dark droning beats with his soothing falsetto. Being likened to Jamie Woon, How to Dress Well and James Blake, Guerre is living up to the hype and creating more than a splash in the blogosphere and beyond.

m: Favourite music event you’ve played at.
G: It was actually a couple of weeks ago. The Gate at Pablo and Rusty’s in Epping. Joe Hardy, who runs the Gate show is the nicest and most gentle man alive. It was such a great night because the sound system was amazing and everyone who played absolutely killed it. Option Command, Rainbow Chan and Albatross. Oh man. Goodness was had.

m: Favourite city to tour.
G: I’ve ever only really “toured” Sydney. And it’s a good place because it feels familiar. It’s safe and loving. Like suckling on a mother’s bosom in a soft summer breeze.

m: Best meal you’ve eaten this year.
G: Home cooked mussels …

m: First artist you fell in love with.
G: Sam Beam of Iron and Wine

m: Most recent artist you’ve fallen in love with.
G: Rainbow Chan.

m: Favourite music event you’ve been to
G: That would be Eastern Aquarium 1 at Tone. I sang with Fishing on a track we collaborated on called Boyfriend. And it was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to this year. Albatross played that night as well. They were absolutely immaculate, as they are most other nights. It was my first time seeing Galapagoose as well and he completely blew my mind. He’s on some other level. The energy and love that night was pretty potent as well. Elisabeth Rose showed her chops and killed it. Fishing made everyone dance and jingle jangle. People were grooving to it as well. Everyone was getting into it and I was so excited for the guys who organized that night, because it was the first show they put on. It was the first time I felt that Sydney was coming out just to see and support amazing local talent.

m: Best coffee in your hometown.
G: I don’t know. Most places feel pretty good to me.

m: Best bar in your hometown.
G: I don’t really know any bars. I don’t go out much. I stay in and sing in the dark and make beats with ghouls I find in the night.

m: Best street food
G: Do Patsatzis count?

m: Favourite video clip
G: Grandaddy – Jed’s Other Poem (Beautiful Ground)

m: Follow Friday – your three favourite tweeters and why
G: Jonny Nail of Polaroids of Androids http://twitter.com/#!/jonny_yesyes
